OUR MISSION STATEMENT
We have three major goals for the season. Our first goal is to gain prominence and respect for our team, both on campus and in the various leagues. Our second goal is to secure the BRHC-Colonial league championship. Lastly, our third goal is to have the rest of the ACHA Division III notice by being one of the top four teams in the southeast region, and securing a bid to the national tournament. With a great core of returning players and a determined freshman class, we feel that those are goals we will definitely not miss out on.

LEAGUE AFFILIATION
The UR Men's Hockey Program is part of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. The ACHA has been around for many years and it provides highly-competitive college hockey to universities who can't or won't support an official NCAA hockey program. Currently, there are three major men's divisions within the ACHA - Division I, Division II and Division III. Division III is primarily for schools with under 10,000 students, or those schools deemed to be in areas that are not a "Hockey Hotbed". The Spiders are part of the Southeast Region of Division 3, and play teams from all over the country - including from Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and as far away as Florida. The Spiders are also members of the Blue Ridge Hockey Conference's elite Colonial Division. This division contains teams that are consistent competitors on the ice, and also adhere to certain standards as a program off the ice. For the 2011-2012 season, the other members of the Colonial Division are Christopher Newport, Loyola, Salisbury, Catholic University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and UNC-Wilmington

PRACTICE INFORMATION
To provide the best possible training and practice for our players, the University of Richmond established its home arena at the Richmond Ice Zone. During the season, our team practices one to two times a week and has full access to the University of Richmond weight training and cariovascular machines. Tryouts and training camp are held during the first few weeks of September. At the first team meeting of the year, a practice schedule is made available to players.

GAME INFORMATION
All home games are played at the Richmond Ice Zone on Friday and Saturday evenings. There are also occasional Sunday matinee games. The RIZ is near the Chesterfiled Town Center - off of Midlothian Turnpike. As for away games, the team generally travels in chartered coach buses or player's cars.

A BRIEF HISTORY
The University of Richmond Men's Ice Hockey Program, was born in 2001. Until that year, the University of Richmond had never fielded a competitive hockey team of any level. The Club was formed by a Sophomore, Chris Bernard that year. He had always played hockey at his home in New Jersey, and he missed playing while he was attending school. He soon found out that he was not the only one, and the team was born. Because of a small student body (3000), and the lack of any hockey program at the University, the first team consisted of only 14 players. Bernard's jersey (#11) was retired on September 24, 2010 during the Spiders' 2010-2011 season opener vs. VCU.
